The new General Data Protection Regulations have got a lot of people very worried.
To be frank, they can be summarised into four words – “don’t be a dick”. But, as it’s legal stuff, there’s a ton of grey areas and confusing language in there.
Basically, you need to make sure you have consent for collecting and processing people’s data, you are transparent about what you do with that data and you have policies and procedures in place for dealing with things that might happen to that data (whether it’s dealing with a data breach or requests from people to delete everything you have on them).
